Zaman Dulu uses either recycled or plantation Teak wood for the majority of its furniture for a number of reasons.
- Teak displays a wonderful and variety of texture – a characteristic of its soft and hard areas of grain and its oiliness.
- It possesses exceptional strength and durability
- Resists rot, warping and is termite proof
- Is ideally suited for use outdoors – has been used extensively in the marine industry for centuries
Teak is a deciduous hardwood tree that is grown in Southeast Asia. It produces a timber that is dense, oily and finely grained.
As with all timbers, teak is a natural product, and as it responds to changes in temperature and humidity some cracking and splitting may occur. This is normal and will not affect its durability or strength. If left untreated, the colour of the wood will gradually change to an attractive silvery grey as the natural oils in the timber dissipate. If you wish to leave it this way, all that is required is an annual scrub with soapy water to remove accumulated dirt and/or mildew.
If you prefer your teak to retain more closely the appearance it had when first purchased, we recommend you apply a good quality teak oil annually after it has received a good clean and depending on its condition, a light sanding. The frequency of oiling will depend on its position and the elements to which it is exposed.
Factors such as heat, UV rays and salt water will affect the life of the product you use on your teak.
